The Department of Economics at the University of Florida is currently accepting applications for its PhD program. The application deadline is February 15th.
The Department of Economics restarted its PhD program in 2016, following our department’s move to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to conduct research in various areas of applied microeconomics, and has been modernized to include coursework in coding and numerical methods. Students can take field courses in Econometrics, Industrial Organization, International Trade, and Public Economics. Recent graduates have also completed dissertation research in Education Policy, Energy Economics, Health Economics, and Public Choice.
Recent academic placements include tenure-track positions at Alberta, Auburn, Michigan, and South Carolina. Non-academic placements include Bank of America and Ernst & Young. A complete list of placements can be found at:
The Department has been rebuilding the faculty as we have reopened the PhD program. We have hired seven Assistant Professors and two Lecturers, and all are active participants in the PhD program. Recent hires have come from Berkeley, Chicago, MIT, Northwestern, Princeton, and Wisconsin. We anticipate additional growth within the next year.
